Gun Violence Prevention

Most gun owners use their guns legally and responsibly, and the President Obama strongly believes in an individual's right to bear arms, but we need to take action to better protect our children and communities from tragic mass shootings like the one in Newtown, Connecticut.

No law or set of laws will end all acts of gun violence, but if even one life can be saved, there’s work to be done. And we're not backing down.

THE PRESIDENT’S PLAN INCLUDES:

  1. Closing background check loopholes to keep guns out of dangerous hands
  2. Banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and taking other common sense steps
  3. Making schools safer
  4. Increasing access to mental health services
